“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
God works in “all things” – not just isolated incidents – for our good. This does not mean that all that happens to us is good. We live in a fallen world where evil runs rampant! But God can turn our circumstances around for a long-range good. Notice that God is not working to make us happy, but is working to fulfill His purpose. And this promise is not for everybody, but for “those who love him and are called according to his purpose.” When we put our trust in Jesus, the Holy Spirit helps us to find our purpose and helps us to listen and follow that purpose in our lives, so that God will work for the good in our lives for His glory!
